Trump names retired general as US ambassador to Saudi Arabia

The retired four-star general,  John Abizaid, former head of the US Central Command from 2003 to 2007, has been picked by President Donald Trump as US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia amid tensions over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. The Saudi ambassador post, which requires Senate confirmation, has been vacant since Trump became president.
