Trump no longer president faces his second impeachment trial
Democratic leaders will Tuesday present the Senate with their case for President Donald Trump’s second impeachment, although most Republicans will bar the motion a two-thirds majority. His lawyers say that he is now a private citizen and should not be tried at all. Trump is being charged with incitement to insurrection over the storming of the US Capitol on Jan. 6 by his supporters. In the unlikely event of his conviction, the Senate would take a second vote initiated by Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer to bar him from holding office again.
