Trump plans $54bn military spending boost

White House officials notified both political parties Monday that President Donald Trump plans to shift an extra $54 billion to the armed forces in next year’s federal budget by slashing spending on education, the environment, science and poverty. The old and sick will be protected at the expense of their younger, poorer counterparts. Decisions on Medicare and Social security will be made later this year.
