Trump to order freeze on immigration
President Donald Trump stated in a tweet early Tuesday that he plans to freeze legal immigration to the United States. He cited the threat posed by the coronavirus outbreak, which he called an “attack” by “the invisible enemy,” and the decline in the jobs market leading to surging unemployment. Trump said that suspension would take place under executive order and be temporary. He noted that more than 22 million Americans had lost their jobs due to the pandemic and unemployment is likely to go as high as 20pc by next year.
