Trump to propose US-Israel mutual defense treaty

In a Twitter post on Saturday, President Donald Trump reported: “I had a call today with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of moving forward with a Mutual Defense Treaty, between the United States and Israel, that would further anchor the tremendous alliance between our two countries. I look forward to continuing those discussions after the Israeli Elections when we meet at the United Nations later this month!”

yeah, that makes terrific strategic sense, if you are Europe. It makes certain that Israel will get the honour of hosting the confrontation.

No,no,no. No more defense treaties with ANYONE!. NO. Israel is more then capable of taking care of it’s own business. She just needs leaders with a backbone. I’m sick and tired of Americaan presidents offering up our military as sacrifices on the altar of politics. NO !

I will be honored to retire in TRUMP HEIGHTS in the Golan with a new Abrams tank manufactured with the TROPHY anti missile system in my garage. Now that’s a treaty I’d sign any day.

Only with Israel would I consider such an alliance. But the next President (liberal wacko) may pull the USA out of the alliance, in which case we lose strength built between us. I see the reason and benefit for Trump doing so, which goes beyond strategy, I am just looking ahead to see that when the pendulum swings the other way in American politics, Israel might be left hanging onto friendship with Russia… which is no friendship at all.

Whether or not Trump is serious, I doubt such a treaty could be ratified.

It does not seem likely that such a treaty with Israel would reduce the risks to the vital interests of the USA. And the probability that Israel could be construed to be at war and able to invoke the treaty seems not only high but continuous.

In this circumstance even if the USA Senate friendly to Israel I doubt they would ratify the treaty.

Trump on Twitter announcing a treaty that hasn’t been proposed to anyone and never mind approved. LOL! Sh*t news from both the chosen one and Debka.

The US should take over the oil fields of the Middle East and lower the price of oil back to $10 per barrel.

Cheap oil, cheap ENERGY benefits the entire World – but destroys OPEC (Fascist Iran, VeneZOOela, Cutter and Putins Russia).

You people are forgetting one important thing. If such a treaty is ratified, then all Presidents that follow must abide by it. However what would such a treaty involve? That is a big question. What is the meaning of “mutual defense”? It can get extremely complicated with an adversary like Iran with its hundreds of thousands of proxy Shia fighters all over Syria and Iraq.
Yes Israel can take care of itself to a point. Iran has so many proxies that Israel is fighting a battle of attrition. During the Iran/Iraq war more than 1 million military personnel died whether on each side or total the number is huge. Israel cannot afford such losses. Iran is causing so much terror in the ME and they are hiding behind the proxies. They are too far to effectively be reached by Israel and meanwhile they are closing in. Only a defense pact with a larger and stronger force that has a longer reach will help. Even if they start now it will take a very long time for them to hammer out the details of such a Treaty. As the saying goes “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”
Israel already has many defense programs that are funded by the annual $3.5 Billion in Military “aid” that she gets from the USA. Most of that money is spent in the USA companies Like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and others. So they already have some kind of “pact”.
