Tuesday saw 152,000 covid vaccinations in all, as infection stayed high

By its second week, Israel’s vaccination program had reached altogether 650,000 people, after a record 152,000 on Tuesday. Most recipients are the high-priority groups of medical staff, the high-risk and the elderly. On Wednesday morning, the Health Ministry reported 5,585 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours and 5,75% positive results from nearly 100,000 tests. The number of serious ill climbed again to 609, of whom 154 patients were put on ventilators. The total death toll reached 3,292.

The UK on, Wednesday authorized the Oxford University AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine for use in Great Britain. The British government has ordered 100 million doses for 50,000 people, starting next Monday. This amount, together with the full order of Pfizer jabs, will cover the entire population. On Tuesday, 53,135 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the UK and another 414 deaths.
