Turkey practices launching its Russian S-400s against US-made F-16 jets

In the face of US warnings, Turkey has begun drilling the operation of the S-400 air defense batteries purchased from Russia against Turkish Air Force US-made F-16 fighter jets. The new S-400 batteries are stationed at the Murted military base 10km west of Ankara. They practiced shooting down F-16s as they made simulated strikes. The Trump administration has threatened Turkey with more sanctions if puts the  Russian air defense system to operational use after becoming the first NATO member to buy it.

I don’t understand what the big problem with Turkey having a system that clearly can’t stop Israel and her f-15, 16, etc. I can’t remember anything Russia has built to work as good as claimed…

Russian made SAM batteries did fairly well during the early stage of the Yom Kippur War. Only after IDF ground onslaught put those batteries out of commission were the Israeli planes finally able to operate freely.

SAM batteries did fairly well, but who won Yom Kippur War in 1973 no doubt? Lot has changed since 73…

It is not the point. The point is that Russian made weaponry, properly operated, will make lots of difference.

Properly operated is the key. Turkeys are not capable of using the tech since anyone in their military with half a brain is dead or in prison (==dead). The sultan demands the utmost loyalty – which excludes using one’s brain.

Actually the IDF did not turn that war around until they had retreated out of range of those SAMs…

American fear of the S400 is justified and based on reality. We all know Russia has not exactly activated the S400 against Israel jets.

…because as soon as the S400 radar is activated, Israel F16s can lock onto the signal and destroy it.

I believe the fear is this, even the new stealth engineered jets do put off some signals on the radar. So if you have a stealth and the s-400 it doesn’t take long to figure out which little blip is theirs. Once that is known I am sure Russia and China both would pay huge amounts of money for that information.

Israel would never have a valid reason to attack Turkey with any weapon system. While Ergodan is an a hole and Islamist, it’s not supporting or facilitating terror ops directly against it.
Why NATO let Turkey into NATO as a bulwark against the East, was a huge mistake. Incirlick air base?

S 400’s are probably good but probably def-eatable by newer US jets and all of this just a show to sell more weapons to one another, hence why they were not turned on in Syria, as the truth would be revealed,

It is amazing that it has not yet happened. Several years ago Turkey joined the SCO while remaining a member of NATO. Even Bismarck knew very well that if a member of a treaty has double loyalties it is highly dangerous, even for the perpetrator, in the event that the conflicting alliances are put to the test. That Turkey has not been sharply criticised and put on notice immediately Erdogan took Turkey into the SCO is an indication of how soft and corrupt the NATO nations have become. The EU are almost flat on the faces with regards to Turkey. The US President is now calling them out, and they don’t like it, but they cannot stop him sanctioning Turkey.

Netanyahu is a Desperado on his last legs – Israel had to get a war on Iran as a escape hatch for Israeli apartheid going down the drain, and it didn’t happen, sanity prevailed in the world over the Israel lobby and Israel

The Desperado Netanyahu bet the farm … and lost … So he doubled down and bet the Israel lobby farm as well… and lost everything. The whole racket – gone. It was all a con game and now the con-artist himself brought it all down around his ears

No one actually knows how good the S-400 really is. It really isn’t fully battle-tested against the best opponents flying really good mission profiles. It’s probably a competent system and if the mission profile for an aircraft is poor for evading air defense then it is highly likely the S-400 can successfully engage.

Oh, and it would be stupid if Turkey didn’t use its F-16s for exercises with the S-400.
