Turkey’s top soldier in Tehran ahead of president

Turkish chief of staff Gen. Halusi Akar arrived in Tehran Tuesday as the guest of the Iranian army. He will join the party of President Tayyip Erdogan, who is due to start a state visit to Tehran on Wednesday. Turkish and Iranian government and military leaders have scheduled discussions on closer cooperation on the Syrian, Iraqi and Kurdish questions, which Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has praised.
