Turkish convoy heads into Syria, sets up lookout post

A Turkish military convoy of 30 armored vehicles and 100 soldiers crossed into Syrian Idlib Friday and set up a look-out post. DEBKAfile’s military sources report: Ankara announced this step was in line with Turkey’s pact with Russian and Iran to establish a de-escalation zone in Idlib. But for now, this northern province is overrun by the Hayat Tahrir al Shams (former Nusra Front), an affiliate of Al Qaeda, and none of the three powers has stepped forward to fight the Islamists,  outside of heavy Russian aerial bombardment.
