Turkey, deploying dozens of drones and heavy artillery, has helped rebel militias in Idlib recover from Syrian government forces southern villages in the area of Jabal Al Jazeera. They have also stopped the Russian-backed Assad regime forces’ advance towards the M4 highway linking Latakia to Aleppo. Turkish President Recep Erdogan said he will seek an Idlib ceasefire when he meets Vladimir Putin on Thursday.
Earlier, Syria confirmed that Turkish F-16s had violated Syrian airspace in Idlib and shot down two Syrian Air Force aircraft on Sunday, with the pilots ejecting and making it to safety. Damascus has since closed the airspace over the region.
