Turkish police identify Istanbul nightclub terrorist as Uzbek citizen
Turkey's police on Sunday identified the terrorist who carried out the New Year's Eve attack on an Istanbul nightclub as Abdulkadir Masharipov, a citizen of Uzbekistan. The terrorist, who has resided in Turkey since 2011, came to Istanbul from the city of Konya in central Turkey in mid-December. A new video from the Reina nightclub's security cameras shows one of the revelers kick Masharipov, resulting in the explosion of a concussion grenade that the terrorist was holding. Masharipov sustained a minor injury to his hand and lost consciousness for several seconds, but woke up and fled the scene. The attack killed 39 people, including an 18-year-old Israeli woman, and wounded about 70 others.
