Two dead including gunman, 8 injured outside New York’s Empire State Bldg
New York Mayor Bloomberg and police commissioner Ray Kelly assured a news conference Friday that the incident that morning was not related to terrorism. The perpetrator returned to the women’s accessories firm which fired him a year ago and shot dead a former co-worker. Out in the street, he pulled a gun, a 45-caliber pistol, on two police officers who approached him near the Empire State Building in Manhattan, and was shot dead himself. Nine bystanders were slightly injured in the shootout – some by police fire.
