Two hostages, gunman killed in storming of Sydney café
The manager of the Lindt café in Sydney’s central business district, 34-year old Tony Johnson, the manager of the café, and 38-year old barrister Katrina Dawson, were the two hostages killed when Australian commandos raided the café Monday night and ended the 17-hostage siege. The gunman, a former Iranian refugee with a long criminal record, was also killed. Several hostages fled the scene. Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Man Haran Monis was not on any terror watch list and the hostages were caught up in the “sick fantasy of a deeply disturbed individual.”
