Two rockets fired from Gaza overnight, more Israeli Arab disturbances

One of the two rockets fired from Gaza Friday night exploded harmlessly on vacant ground in the Eshkol regio; the second at the Israel-Gaza border fence. Also overnight, Israeli Arabs staged pro-Palestinian outbreaks in at least four districts across the country. There were no casualties. Twelve lawbreakers were arrested. At Rahat, in the western Negev, masked Bedouin rioters threw rocks and iron bars at passing highway cars and smashed security cameras. In central Israel, at Um al Fahm and Baqaa al-Garbiyeh, and in the northern town of Nazareth, young Arabs followed the same violent pattern of pelting rocks, firebombs and burning cans on security forces and passing cars to block national highways.

Route 6 was reopened to traffic Saturday morning after it was cleared of rocks and burning tires. Palestinians in the turbulent Jerusalem Shoafat suburb clashed with police Saturday morning after Friday’s stormy confrontation with security forces in which a Palestinian rioter was shot dead when he pulled a gun and shot at them.
