Ukraine like Israel is fighting in self-defense, Zelensky tells Knesset
In a speech to the Knesset related by zoom, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Israel knows how to help itself and others and should therefore grant his country aid, including weapons. “You have the best air defense systems in the world.” He drew parallels between the two nations, noting that millions of Ukrainians have been cut adrift from their homes and are wandering around the world in search of a haven. “Our nations have always been close,” he said and “we too are fighting for our existence.” Russian missiles have hit Babi Yar and Uman, where every year hundreds of Hassidim visit Rabbi Nahman’s tomb.
The speech was livestreamed with Hebrew translation over Israel TV and broadcast at Habima Square in Tel Aviv to hundreds of demonstrators waving Ukrainian and Israeli flags.
