UN concerned by Golan ceasefire lines violations
The UN Security Council voiced grave concern Wednesday night over the presence of Syrian armed forces inside the area of separation between Syria and Israel on the Golan and also the presence of armed members of the opposition. Repeated violations and the escalating civil war are endangering UN peacekeepers, said the statement.
DEBKAfile: The main Jordanian border post was closed for the first time in the two-year Syrian revolt after al Qaeda fighters captured villages along the nearby Syrian-Israeli border. The Syrian Army’s 5th Division is battling the Al Musanna section of the al Qaeda-linked Jabhat al Nusra to regain control of the three-way border junction between Syria, Jordan and Israel.
