UN envoy says Eid truce agreed by Damascus and Syrian opposition
The UN and Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said the Syrian government has agreed to abide by a ceasefire during the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. So had most “heads of fighting groups” that “we were able to contact.” The Syrian opposition told him that any ceasefire observed by government forces will be reciprocated. Brahimi said the news had reached him in Cairo after he visited Damascus and awaits a formal announcement. The feast starts on Thursday and lasts four days.
