UN Syria envoy extends Damascus stay to Sunday

Notwithstanding reports that his talks with Bashar Assad Monday had failed, international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has added six days to his stay in Damascus and will stay until next Sunday in pursuit of his effort to mediate an end to the uninterrupted bloodletting of Syria’s civil war.  DEBKAfile: This would be the longest period any would-be Syrian peacemaker has spent in the Syrian capital in the nearly two-year conflict.
