UNIFIL: Israeli soldier killed was on Israeli side of border
UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said the incident Sunday in which Navy Master Sgt. Shlomi Cohen, 31, was shot dead by a Lebanese army sniper “happened on the Israeli side of the blue line.” He said the Israeli and Lebanese armies were cooperating with the peacekeeping force’s effort to ascertain the facts. Lebanon’s national news agency confirmed that a member of the Lebanese army had opened fire on the Israeli solider but did not explain why. As Israel heightened its state of preparedness, the IDF spokesman said Sunday night "We will not tolerate aggression against the state of Israel, and maintain the right to exercise self-defense against perpetrators."
