US 9/11 lawsuit bill causes “great concern” in Riyadh
Republican leaders in the US Congress are reconsidering their vote for a law allowing the families of the nearly 3,000 killed in the 9/11 terror attack to sue Saudi Arabia over the participation of 15 of its nationals. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnel admitted lawmakers may not have fully understood the possible consequences of the law. In Riyadh, the Saudi foreign ministry said the law is a matter of “great concern” and “set a dangerous precedent.” The kingdom has denied any role in the attacks. While stopping short of saying how it would retaliate, the Saudi foreign minister warned, “The erosion of sovereign immunity would have a negative impact on all nations, including the United States.”
