US Air Force bombers in show of force over North Korean coast

US Air Force B-1B bombers and F-15 jets, flying in international waters, made a show of force Saturday off the coast of North Korea, at the farthest point north of the Demilitarize Zone between the two Koreas ever flown by US aircraft this century. Pentagon spokesperson Dana White said the operation “underscored the seriousness with which we take (North Korea’s) reckless behavior.”

“This mission is a demonstration of US resolve and a clear message that the President has many military options to defeat any threat,” White said. “We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the US homeland and our allies.”

” Over the course of a 10-hour mission, the B-1Bs, F-35Bs and two Japanese F-15 fighters first flew together over waters near Kyushu, Japan. The U.S. and South Korean warplanes then flew across the Korean Peninsula and participated in the live-fire training before returning to their respective home stations, according to the Pacific Command.”
