US air strike in Syria kills high-ranking ISIS operative
The Pentagon reported Thursday that a US air strike over Syria on June 16 had killed Tariq bin Tahar al-'Awni al-Harzi, who helped raise funds, secure arms and transport fighters for the Islamic State. He was identified as the brother of another terrorist linked to the 2012 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
"His death will impact ISIL's ability to integrate foreign terrorist fighters into the Syrian and Iraqi fight as well as to move people and equipment across the border between Syria and Iraq," said Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.
