US ambassador Haley berates Moscow for ending chemical watchdog mandate

US Ambassador Nikki Haley accused Moscow of again siding “with the dictators and terrorists who use these weapons” after a Russian veto at the UN Security Council on Tuesday blocked the renewal of the mandate for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for another year. Known also as the Joint Investigate Mechanism, this watchdog is due to report on Oct. 26, on who was responsible for an attack on April 4 on the Syrian rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun that killed dozens of people. That attack prompted a major US missile attack on a Syrian government air base.
