US-British airlifts bring arms to Lebanese army fighting ISIS
At least five US and British air force freighters have landed at the Lebanese military air base at Riyaq in the eastern Beqaa Valley in the last few days. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that they are delivering anti-tank rockets and artillery ammo for the Lebanese army which is battling ISIS elements that have infiltrated the northern Beqaa Valley through the Syrian border. Lebanese media quote US ambassador Elizabeth Richard as warning President Michel Aoun that the flow of US arms will be suspended if the Lebanese army is found coordinating operations with the Syrian army and Hizballah. President Aoun called a supreme national security council meeting at his palace in Beirut Tuesday to discuss the fighting.
