US condemns reported abduction of monitors by Ukraine separatists
The State Department issued the condemnation after pro-Russian separatists said they had detained a group of 7 international observers and their 5 Ukrainian escorts. "They are with us in Slavyansk," Vyacheslav Ponomaryov, a pro-Russian separatist leader, said in front of the town’s security building where the captives are held, accusing the observers of bringing with them a Ukrainian secret service spy. The Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) has teams deployed at nine Ukraine locations.
