US Democrats step up campaign to discredit Trump election win
The Democratic Party campaign, after the recount of votes failed to undermine the presidential election results, is branching out in strategies for discrediting Donald Trump as the winner and presenting Hillary Clinton as the victor – not the loser.
- The media has been fed a stream of reports from anonymous intelligence sources alleging that the Kremlin sent hackers to tilt the election in Trump’s favor. President Obama accused Vladimir Putin of a personal hand in this scheme and said America would retaliate. Putin responded Friday by calling on Washington to produce evidence of this or withdraw the allegation.
- Democratic Senator Harry Reid commented sarcastically that FBI director Mike Comey deserved to be appointed chairman of the Republican Party as a reward for causing Clinton to lose the election by announcing a probe of her emails.
- Democratic figures and pro-Clinton celebrities are pressing the 538 electors to recast their votes against Donald Trump on the grounds that, without the intervention of Russian hackers, Clinton would have won the Nov. 8 election. The results were 306 electors in support of Trump and 232 for Clinton (a minimum requirement for winning is 270).
- White House spokesman Josh Earnest accused the president-elect of knowing that Russia was behind the hacks of the Democratic Party’s emails, else why would he invite Russia to find Hillary Clinton’s missing 33,000 mails?
Trump, while shooting back at his accusers on Twitter, does not look worried. DEBKAfile’s Washington sources report that the furious spat preoccupying US media will die down when it becomes clear that the storm of allegations has no hope of changing the outcome of the presidential election.
