US drone targets ISIS executioner Jihadi John in Raqqa
US officials were assessing the results of the drone attack Thursday night in Raqqa, northern Syria, which targeted the notorious Islamic State executioner, dubbed Jihad John because of his British accent. One US official said that the target, identified as Mohammed Erwazi, was in a vehicle at the time of the strike, which was launched after he was reported hiding around ISIS Syrian headquarters in Raqqa.
Emwazi, a British citizen believed born in Kuwait, appeared hooded and masked in the videos showing the murders of US journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley, US aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig, British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning, Japanese journalist Kenji Goto, and a number of other hostages.
