US hits Chinese and Russian entities with secondary sanctions
The US Treasury Department on Tuesday placed sanctions on 10 Chinese and Russian companies and 6 individuals for conducting business with North Korea in ways that advanced the country’s missile and nuclear weapons program. It was the fifth set of US sanctions related to North Korea this year, and the largest. In a related move, the Justice Department filed two legal complaints seeking the forfeiture of $11 million from two of the sanctioned companies believed to have been laundering money on behalf of North Korea.
