US hits Iran’s drone program with sanctions

US sanctions announced on Friday singled out head of the Revolutionary Guards UAV command, Brig. Gen. Saeed Aghajani, following Tehran’s proposal to renew nuclear negotiations next month. The drones have been used to attack US forces and international shipping in the Gulf region, including last year the commercial vessel owned by an Israeli company based in London that killed two crewmen. Aghajani was named as behind the 2019 drone attack on an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia. The IRGC has supplied armed drones to Hizballah, Hamas and Yemen’s Houthi rebels. Also blacked by the US sanctions were two companies, Kimia Part Sivan and Oje Parvaz Mado Nafar, which provide components for and help develop the armed UAVs of the Revolutionary Guards.
