US Intel Chief: Benghazi murders were al Qaeda-linked terror
The office of Director of National Intelligence James Clapper released an unusual statement Saturday explaining that only in the aftermath was it discovered that the murders of US Ambassador Chris Steven and three others in Benghazi on Sept. 11 was “a deliberate and organized terrorist attack.” The statement defended the administration’s initial accounts that the attack was spontaneous against accusations of lying and lawmakers’demands for an inquiry.
Analysts have “since revised our initial assessments to reflect new information indicating that… some of those involved were linked to groups affiliated with or sympathetic to al Qaeda,” said Clapper’s office.
