US joins EU in sanctioning Russians over Navalny poisoning

The Biden administration on Tuesday announced sanctions that target a number of Russian officials and entities after US intelligence concluded that the Russian government was behind the nerve agent attack on President Vladimir Putin’s high-profile critic, Alexei Navalny. The European Union has made similar moves. Moscow denies the accusation and disputes the conclusion reached by Western weapons experts that a nerve agent was used in an attempt to poison Navalny. He later recovered in a German hospital and returned home to face detention.
