US Marine reinforcements rushed to US Al-Tanf base in E. Syria

The US has sent a contingent of Marine troops to reinforce the American Al-Tanf garrison which commands the Syrian-Iraqi-Jordanian border intersection. According to several American sources, it numbers up to a thousand men. DEBKAfile’s military sources: For some months, Russian, Iranian and Syrian forces have been campaigning for the expulsion of US forces from this strategic corner of eastern Syria. Their presence at Al Tanf impedes the passage of pro-Iranian Shiite forces from Iraq and defends northern Jordan.

Oh, you are referring to the “Legitimate Syrian Government” that drops Chlorine and Sarin barrel bombs on its own people, children and hospitals. Tens of millions of Syrians would take issue with your arm-chair description of that small Alawite gang lead by Assad as a Legitimate government.

Syria has the responsibility under international law of ensuring that its territory is not used to plan or carry out attacks against UN member states by terrorist groups. Despite it’s international obligations Syria allowed ISIS to flourish and has been unwilling and unable to eradicate it. International law in such cases allows countries that are under threat to enter this territory and neutralize the threat. The failed state’s permission is not required under international law. Everything that the coalition against ISIS is doing is perfectly legal, and it is the Syrian government that has failed in its international obligations.

You are not cool. The land from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates was promised by Almighty God to the Jews and soon they will have it when Christ Jesus returns.
There are Arabs in many countries, so they don’t need a square centimeter of that promise and soon won’t get it.

Putin just need to say ‘nyet’ the US planes won’t fly and US forces would be history.

Last time Russia were not prepared but next time rest assure no more air attack and see how you will respond.

Using air power vs tanks unprotected is not great victory.
Seems next round US would not be able to do anything when SAA are protected by Sam and F22 face Su57 and new su35 to fry the F22

Just ridiculous. Very childish comment. We are not kids remember… Nobody here truly knows anything. We get to see the censored reports and read some opinions, but no one really knows. You cant say – “russia wasn’t prepared last time” – you cannot know that. No one here knows with any certainty, what the actual capabilities of either side are. The SU-57 may or may not be a fearsome weapon…we don’t know…anything can happen.

Well, if iran was to take any of those steps you just mentioned. Its a very good chance they would or will be at war – a real war. Not only with the US but Israel too. Even with russian support, the IRG has not performed very well in battle. So, how will they match it with the Israeli’s? War is not fun and its not going end well for anyone… just dead people and destruction – for nothing.

    Dear Debka Admin,

I fully understand that advertisements bring money for the site. But if your site is aggressively taken over by intrusive ads that slow down the computer, frustrate readers, and don’t let them get to the content easily and enjoy reading them without headache, then that is terrible too…
Any way, I hate them and never click on aggressive ads. I don’t know who in their insulted minds would!…
I wish you guys could strike the right balance between a pleasantly readable site and one that also makes money from advertisement.
    نوش
Cheers and thank you for your attention.

I’d guess that like other news sites Debka needs to make some money to pay the costs of running their platform. They’re not a large news provider so due to this personally I’m OK living with the ads that have come along – at least they don’t keep popping here and there and everywhere like some other sites…I might not agree with all their articles however they have some good content and good journos. They’re also dealing (a little) with persistent offenders posting extreme comments and clearing some of it up. A moderator costs money to hire ofcourse….

Oh really? Do check who bombed hospitals in Syria. Or do you need me to provide links to you? Or how the US allowed ISIS to smuggle oil from Syria to Turkey? They were watching it on satelites and having a good chuckle, it only came to a stop when the Russians dealt with it…

No, the US is there amongst many other things to impede the iranian roll-out. Everyone knows that iran is building up in the area for war with Israel. Its makes sense for the US to try and stop that as again, everyone knows that if they start a real war there it will probably spread. That’s not in anyone’s interests.

In all of History, especially since 1967, going against Israel does not work out well for those who want the Jewish State destroyed. Even when there are numerous nations aligned against Israel with overwhelming odds they lose and lose badly. This is just fact and observation.
