US military confirms plane crash in Afghanistan, denies Taliban shot it down

The US military confirmed on Monday that an E-11A aircraft crashed in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, but disputed Taliban’s claims to have shot it down. The incident is under investigation, said US military spokesman Col. Sonny Leggett. He did not disclose how many people were on board or if anyone was killed. Local authorities had rushed to the scene in a mountainous area partly controlled by the Taliban. The military aircraft, built by Bombardier Inc, is used to provide communication capabilities in remote locations. Civilian airline Ariana Afghan Airlines denied initial reports that it was the owner of the plane.
