US: Progress in talks for resolving Yemen war, Saudis cut oil production
The White House Friday commended the “critical progress” being made towards a diplomatic resolution of the Yemen conflict in meetings between Biden’s Mid-East adviser Brett McGurk, his Yemen envoy Tim Lenderking and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Taking part also were US energy envoy Amos Hochstein and Saudi energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. The White House summary did not mention the surprise decision earlier this month by Saudi-led OPEC+ to cut oil production as long demanded by President Joe Biden. The US Yemen initiative followed the recent Chinese-brokered détente between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Yemen’s main sponsor, in a process which omitted Washington.
