US protests Russian Iskander deployment near EU states
A US protest reached Moscow Monday following the announcement that Russia had deployed
nuclear-capable Iskander missiles to the Kaliningrad enclave opposite the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, in response to the disputed US air defense shield. German intelligence reported the deployment of 10 missiles, which have a range of 500 km and could be used to take out ground-based radar and interceptors of the new NATO shield. Poland and the Baltic states voiced alarm. DEBKAfile: No protests from the US or even Israel were forthcoming when the Russians posted Iskander missiles in Syria, albeit of a lower grade.
