US sanctions Israeli ex-general over actions in South Sudan civil war

Retired Maj.-Gen. Israel Ziv is accused by the US of selling both the government of South Sudan and the opposition $150m worth of weapons and ammunition, including rifles, grenade launchers and shoulder-fired rockets.  Ziv responded that he was “surprised and astonished” at the charges and said the accusations are “baseless:” He is accused of using agricultural and housing projects for the government of South Sudan as cover for those sales. The US Treasury designated for sanctions three entities owned or controlled by the former general, Global N.T.M Ltd, Global Law Enforcement and Security Ltd and Global IZ Group Ltd. The general replied that his involvement in extensive agricultural projects in South Sudan brings income and nutritional security to millions of people.
