US sends destroyer to Indian Ocean to hunt Malaysian plane

The USS Kidd guided-missile destroyer has been sent to the Indian Ocean to assist in the search for the Malaysian airliner with 239 people aboard now missing for six days. Pentagon sources reported Thursday that according to their information the plane carried on flying for 4-5 hours before contact was broken off. White House spokesman Jay Carney disclosed that new information was received but not yet confirmed as solid. DEBKAfile: Instead of heading for its destination, Beijing, the missing plane apparently turned around and headed in the opposite direction.
