US-South Korean drill winds down. Standoff over North Korean threats

South Korea and the US end their annual military exercise Thursday, two days after North Korea’s ballistic missile launch over Japan Tuesday and subsequent threats of more missile tests. US President Donald Trump said Wednesday night, “Talking is not the answer!” while Defense Secretary James Mattis took the opposite view. Asked before meeting South Korean Defense Secretary Song Young-moo whether there were diplomatic solutions, Mattis said there still are.
