Vaccinations to be made available to all as covid figures stay high

The Health Ministry reported 7,919 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday morning. Although the number of seriously ill dropped in the last 24 hours by 20 to 1,074, the mortality figure rose by 31 deaths to 4,888. Altogether, 3,236 million Israelis have received their first vaccination shot and 1,853 million, the second. Ministry director general Hezi Levi said that extending the lockdown from Thursday when it expires to Sunday midnight is his recommendation to the coronavirus cabinet meeting later on Wednesday. He also announced that the vaccination program will be opened to all age groups and categories in the coming days, after the public response of the below 50s began to slow.
