West Bank local elections – further disconnect from Gaza

The Islamist Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip,  is boycotting local elections in 90 West Bank Palestinian communities, their first in six years. It is considered a step before West Bank elections for a separate legislature that would represent a definitive disconnect between the two Palestinian territories, after all bids to lead Fatah and Hamas into power-sharing deals stalemated.
