White House denies Israeli TV claim that Trump sent Lauder to meet Abu Mazen

National Security Council spokesman Garrett Marquis said Thursday night: “The report in Channel 2 is false. Ambassador Lauder is a friend of the President, but he was not sent by the White House to meet with the Palestinians on the President’s behalf — secretly or otherwise.”
The Israeli channel claimed Thursday that President Trump sent WJC President Ronald Lauder to Jordan to meet PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas and persuade him to return to the negotiating table, and that his mission bypassed Israel and also the president’s Middle East negotiators, Jason Greenblatt and Jared Kushner. The entire story was flatly denied by the White House before the end of the day.
