Xi urges negotiations in first call to Ukraine president

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday conducted a first phone call to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky since Russian invasion. After what he called their “long and meaningful” conversation, Zelensky said a Ukrainian ambassador would be appointed to Beijing.. President Xi told the Ukrainian leader that “talks and negotiation” were the “only way out” of the war, according to Chinese state media.

This significant development was initiative by French President Emmanuel Macron and the EU leader Ursula von der Leyen, who added that Xi was interested in meeting Zelensky. China recently took a hand in resolving another international conflict by brokering rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
