Yaalon confirms Israel was consulted in Saudi Arabia-Egypt island deal
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon told military correspondents on Tuesday that Israel was consulted in the process in which sovereignty over Tiran and Sanafir islands in the Red Sea was transferred from Egypt to Saudi Arabia. He said all of Egypt's committments under its peace treaty with Israel to allow free passage of ships and the presence of a multinational force in the area would be fully honored by the Saudis.
Regarding other matters, Yaalon said that the wave of Palestinian terrorist attacks against Israelis had declined recently because Palestinians view it as having no effect. He added that Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu had asked ministers and Knesset members to continue to refrain from visiting Jerusalem's Temple Mount during the upcoming Passover holiday in order to reduce tensions.
