Yemen ceasefire in force Tuesday with onset of peace talks
The Saudi-led coalition force announced Tuesday a ceasefire in the Yemen war had gone into effect at noon to coincide with the start of UN-backed peace talks at an undisclosed location in Switzerland. This was confirmed by the UN spokesman in Geneva. The truce is to last seven days barring a breach. Taking part in the peace talks are Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi and his government, representatives of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, and the General People’s Congress party of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh – whose loyalists in the security forces have backed the rebels.
