Zarif: Iran can build a nuclear bomb any time

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said Tuesday that Tehran would soon reveal details of the understandings reached with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program. Speaking at a closed session of the Majlis, he said that the two parties had agreed not to publish this document, but “because of the lies the Americans are spreading,” Iran had no other option. Contrary to US claims, Zarif said, no cameras are to be affixed at nuclear facilities to record their functions.

He then reported he had informed the world powers that Iran was able to build a bomb any time it wished but refrained from doing so because of religious prohibitions.
DEBKAfile:  Zarif is correct about Iran’s ability to build a bomb at present. It already has all the necessary know-how, technology and fissile material. The reason Tehran is holding back has nothing to do with religion; it is because the moment the bomb goes into production, Iran expects to be attacked by the United States and Israel.
