Zionist Union breaks up. Labor’s Gabai drops Livni
Labor Party leader Avi Gabbay in a shock announcement on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the union between Labor and Hatnuah, the party founded by Tzipi Livni. The partnership, formed by Gabbay’s predecessor Yitzhak Herzog, ahead of the 2015 election, boosted Labor’s position as leading opposition party. After Herzog retired last year, Livni took over as a highly vocal opposition leader since Gabbay is not a Knesset member. The Labor leader accusing Livni of disloyalty made his humiliating announcement, while clearly struggling to arrest the party’s free fall in opinion polls under his leadership.
