Musharraf names loyalist Lt. Gen. Nadeem Taj new intelligence chief
He will head the Inter-Services Intelligence agency ahead of president Pervez Musharraf’s retirement as army chief in order to keep hold onto the presidency in the coming election. The new appointment frees the incumbent intelligence chief, another loyalist, Lt. Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, to possibly take over from Musharraf as army commander, as the military takes heavy losses in stepped up terrorist attacks.
Another contender, Lt. Gen. Tariq Majeed, corps commander in the military headquarters city of Rawalpindi, was also relieved of his job.
