Palestinian officials in Cairo report a Gaza ceasefire from 22:00 local time

The Palestinian rocket barrage from Gaza continued after a ceasefire from 22:00 local time (1900 GMT) Saturday, May 13, was announced in Cairo. It was not confirmed directly by Israel except for this message: Israel will give the truce a chance provided Palestinian Islamic Jihad halts rocket fire. The IDF stands ready to respond to the first rocket to breach the ceasefire.

Twenty minutes before 22:00, Jihad rockets were aimed at the towns of Holon and Rishon Lezion. Another round hit Sderot and other locations at 9:15.

The announcement from Cairo came after Jihad withdrew its former terms for a ceasefire and accepted a formula put forward by the Egyptian brokers: “The two sides will abide by the ceasefire which will include an end to targeting civilians, house demolition, and targeting individuals immediately when the ceasefire goes into effect,” it said. A round of Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip hit the locations close to the border at 9:15. p.m. The Home Command confirmed standing restrictions for civilians in the past five days pending developments in the coming hours. A decision regarding schools in the regions up to 40m from the Gaza border will be announced first thing on Sunday.
