Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal, 29, father of four, from Har-Beracha near Nablus, was stabbed to death by a terrorist outside Ariel Monday. The rabbi was waiting at a hitching post when the killer attacked him with two knives. Despite efforts by paramedics to save his life, he died of multiple wounds to the upper torso on his way to hospital. The killer, who reached the scene in a taxi, escaped pursuit by an IDF officer on the spot. He gave chase in his car and struck the terrorist twice with his vehicle. The fugitive got up and fled into an olive field by the road. The officer was on leave from his unit and unarmed. IDF forces have surrounded two nearby Palestinian villages Kif-el-Haras and Salfit and are searching house to house for the killer.
He was later identified as Abd Al Karim Adel Aesi, and Israeli Arab, aged 19, son of an Israeli Arab mother and Palestinian father from Nablus. He had lived in Jaffa for some years as a dropout, some of the time on welfare relief, until a year ago when he broke off contact with the authorities and began spending time in Nablus.
