Prime Minister Netanyahu recovers from minor surgery, is back in harness
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, 63, is recovering from umbilical hernia surgery he underwent under general anesthetic at Hadassah Ain Karem hospital, Jerusalem Saturday night, Aug 10. He has resumed his duties which briefly passed to Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon as acting prime minister during the medical procedure. The prime minister will work from home for the next few days.
The regular cabinet meeting Sunday scheduled to have finalized the first stage of the release of Palestinian security prisoners to foster peace talks was postponed. A ministerial committee meets later Sunday to approve the release instead, chaired by Yaalon.
This would pave the way for a second round of Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Jerusalem.
